Our parks system includes approximately 40 miles of trails and pathways within village limits, eight picnic shelters, two lakes, numerous recreation areas, and 11 public parks. And, a river runs through it. Ruidoso adopted its name from the Rio Ruidoso, which translates to the noisy river.
Parks and natural areas designated as Nature and Open Space (passive and leisure recreational opportunities) make up nearly 80 percent of the total park acreage. A system of pathways, trails, and recreation corridors gives residents and visitors the opportunity for hiking, biking, walking, jogging, fishing, boating, horseback riding, camping, as well as the ability to experience wildlife and tranquility in a natural setting.
